The date of November 3rd is symbolic. We will gather together on the feast day of the patron saint for social justice, St. Martin de Porres, to seek justice for survivors of clergy sexual abuse around the world.
It is our hope that November 3rd will be memorialized as “All Survivors Day” which will follow “All Saints Day” on November 1st and “All Souls Day” on November 2nd.
Protestors will dress in purple to symbolize the liturgical colors of pain, mourning and penitence. Practicing Catholics can continue to wear purple to mass the following Sunday.
Protesters will demand Pope Francis take the following 3 actions:
1. Acknowledge that clergy sexual abuse of children has been a chronic, persistent, and pernicious problem within the Catholic Church and that the Church, rather than addressing the problem responsibility, has used its authority to cover up its criminal
conduct.
2. Voluntarily release to all relevant government authorities all records pertaining to sexual abuse by clergy.
3. Immediately cease all lobbying activity seeking governmental and diplomatic protections from civil and criminal litigation.
